April Cooley, Enrolled Agent, Anchorage Alaska
April Cooley
Owner · Enrolled Agent
EA Since 2018

April founded Cooley Tax + Accounting in 2013 after a decade of bookkeeping and tax work for small businesses and individuals. She earned her B.S. in Business Administration — Accounting emphasis — from Oregon State University in 2002, and received her Enrolled Agent credential in 2018. An EA is federally licensed by the U.S. Department of the Treasury to represent taxpayers before the IRS, including in audits, collections, and appeals.

Before Alaska, she grew up in Oregon. She stays current on tax law changes each year through the EA's continuing education requirement. Outside the office she runs, travels, and explores the state she now calls home.

I keep up with the tax code so my clients don't have to.

Good to know

Answers before you ask.

The questions prospective clients most often raise in a first call.

01 What's the difference between a CPA and an Enrolled Agent?
An EA is federally licensed by the IRS to represent taxpayers before the agency — including in audits, collections, and appeals. EAs earn the credential through a comprehensive exam or long qualifying service, and must complete annual continuing education. CPAs are licensed by individual states. For IRS matters specifically, an EA carries full authority.
02 Can you handle both my personal and business taxes?
That's how most of our clients work with us. Individual returns, corporate returns, payroll, and bookkeeping — all under one relationship. You get a single point of contact who knows the full picture, not disconnected providers.
03 I just got an IRS notice — can you help?
Yes. As a licensed Enrolled Agent, April can represent you directly to the IRS. Send the notice to april@cooleytax.com or call (907) 222-2651 and we'll schedule a call. You won't need to sit on hold with the IRS yourself.
04 Do you work with out-of-state clients?
We primarily serve Alaskans — but federal tax work (returns, IRS resolution, EA representation) can be handled remotely for clients anywhere in the United States.
05 How do I get started?
Call (907) 222-2651 or email april@cooleytax.com. We'll schedule a brief call to understand your situation, outline what we'd handle, and give you a clear sense of timing and fees before any work begins.
06 What if my situation is complicated?
Complicated is the work we enjoy. Multi-entity businesses, back taxes, audits, years of catch-up bookkeeping — we've handled it. Bring us the mess; we'll sort it out.
